Our strength in outdoor learning derives from Keswick's vision as the Adventure Capital of England. We are surrounded by World class outdoor opportunities and try to make the most of these at all times. We have a developmental programme of outdoor residential visits as well as a wealth of outdoor learning opportunities in school, including our own Forest School area with campfire, school pond, garden areas and large open spaces. We have a progressive plan of fell walks for all children from Reception to Year 6. Our Reception children enjoy walking to the top of a local mast walk with stunning views of Derwent Water. Year 1 climb to the top of Latrigg and Year 2 enjoy scaling Barrow. Year 3 summit Walla Crag and Year 4 enjoy the most popular climb in the county up Catbells. Our Year 5's climb to the top of Bleaberry and Year 6 end their Primary education with a climb up the mighty Blencathra. 

Our Residential experiences provide more opportunities for outdoor learning. Year 2's complete a range of activities including canoeing, ghyll scrambling and camp fire baking when they visit Hawse End. Year 3's enjoy geo-cacheing on the fells, orienteering and exploring rivulets at St John's in the Vale. Year 5's visit Winmarleigh Hall near Preston to experience a huge range of outdoor adventures including traverse, trapeze, Jacob's Ladder, zip lines, giant swing, raft building and archery.

Staff, led by our Forest School leader, plan outdoor lessons in all subjects as part of our everyday curriculum.
